MISSION STATEMENT

Reflections from the Founder, Angelica Ross:

“The United States will groom you to love and live by the mantra “no pain, no gain,” so that when you’re being abused you tell yourself it’s a necessary evil.

Everyday, countless people join the ranks of those who see it as safer, and certainly more lucrative, to be silent. Now, everyone with an opinion and an internet connection are incentivized to not just create content, but to create distraction, discord and rage bait. You will be asked to trade in your privacy, the rights to your image, likeness and integrity in exchange for celebrity, comfort and convenience. Unfortunately, many have chosen to relinquish their power and trade their courage for comfort.

Let us all reexamine who and what we celebrate.

I don’t just want better for myself.
I want better for all of us.

I desire to maintain a creative and spiritual practice — to turn the privileges I hold into power, not just to wield for my own ambitions, but to create a lasting, positive impact on the world. My overall objective has always been to live life on my own terms and support others in being able to do the same.

Millions of dollars are allocated to create a variety of distractions to divert our attention away from the crimes on humanity happening on the hour, like a network of regularly scheduled programming. It’s a losing game. I want us to wake up and realize we have the power to cancel our subscription. We no longer need to subscribe to the idea that you have to “play the game” to win. The only options are to play the hand you are dealt or change the game completely. I decided to change the game.

There is immense power for people to wield in recognizing that our attention is the new currency.

Attention is not just a currency, but an actual current of power.

Let us all increase our power and impact by standing firmly together in solidarity as a united front.

We are conditioned to believe that evil is indeed necessary and sometimes we must choose between the lesser of two evils. I reject that notion. Change is a choice and the current of change is always in motion, even when it seems like it’s standing still. The smallest action can create a ripple effect so strong it can shift that which once seemed unmovable.

When we witness an injustice — when we realize our unalienable rights are being violated — we need to speak up, stand up, and fight back to the extent of our capacities. See every day of your life as practice. Practice builds power.

Here, at The Left Current, we will practice integrity. We will address the issues weakening our impact with integrity. Integrity will keep our words from losing the power they were intended to carry.
