With a proven track record in fighting for equality, Angelica’s leadership blends her experience as an executive producer, writer, and activist with her deep commitment to creating change.
Her advocacy has been recognized across industries, whether through her groundbreaking media work or her efforts to uplift Black, queer, and trans communities. Angelica is dedicated to translating her activism into policy, ensuring that marginalized voices are heard and protected at every level of government.
As the former Deputy Campaign Manager for the Green Party’s Gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Butch Ware, Angelica brings a fresh lens that has helped many individuals and communities see each other in our struggles and our triumphs.

Renitta Shannon
In 2016, she defeated a four-term conservative Democratic incumbent to win Georgia's 84th House district. Her signature legislative win was leading the successful effort to expand Georgia's postpartum Medicaid coverage — a significant achievement in a state with one of the nation's worst maternal mortality rates. She chaired the House Democratic Criminal Justice Reform Committee, and consistently opposed bills that expanded police authority at the expense of accountability. Year after year, Shannon fought back an unrelenting wave of legislation designed to make it harder for Black and brown Georgians to vote. She was a public voice in media interviews and legislative debate, calling voter suppression by its name at a time when many were still reluctant to do so. Renitta was one of a handful of key Georgia House Committee members that successfully confronted and repelled Rudy Giuliani and the Trump lawyers when they appeared before the House Governmental Affairs Committee, attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
In 2017, she came out publicly as one of the few openly LGBTQ legislators in the Georgia General Assembly, writing about the importance of electing queer Black women to office. In December 2018, Shannon organized and led a lawmaker’s boycott of Governor-elect Brian Kemp's first major public address, for running what she called "a campaign of hate against half of Georgia, targeting voters of color, immigrants, women, and the LGBTQ community". She said she refused to lend her presence to an event that would signal a return to business as usual. In 2019, she became a national figure when she was physically removed from the Georgia House floor for refusing to cede time during debate over the state's six-week abortion ban; after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, she was chosen to testify before the U.S. House Oversight Committee on behalf of state lawmakers nationwide. That same year, she left her House seat after six years to run for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia.
Since then, she co-founded SGW Strategies, the only full-scale reproductive-justice-centered communications firm built specifically to address human rights issues affecting communities of color with a special focus on the Black community. Renitta is a frequent political commentator and speaker on major platforms including MSNBC, the Black Star Network, and national policy convenings. Her ability to break down complex, often stigmatized issues into clear, compelling narratives makes her one of the most sought-after voices in progressive politics today.
Renitta Shannon grew up in a working-class Black family in the South, an experience that shaped her focus on economic and racial justice. After graduating from the University of Florida and working in business development across healthcare and financial services, she became a committed activist — organizing with the Fight for $15 campaign for livable wages, challenging state leaders on healthcare expansion and police accountability, and doing reproductive justice organizing before it was politically popular.

Anaïs Monique is a nomadic creative from Los Angeles, CA. A decade of blogging about travel, romance, and justice taught her that life must be explored to be a good writer, and the truth must be told to be a great one.
At some point, her storytelling evolved from whimsical to bearing witness. Now she writes from the perspective that liberation must start from within, by re-wilding the parts of ourselves that were domesticated for the sake of capitalism and white supremacy.
Her story starts with her elders and her ancestors. They endured so much of what she would never have to face.
“Sometimes, I wonder, what did they dream about? I bet some of them were just as wild as I am at heart, but never had the same opportunities to chase their dreams.”
Anaïs is a millennial who comes from sharecroppers and immigrants, and the first generation of her family on both sides to be born with so-called civil rights. Like them, she contends with systems that were built to crush her. Her elders taught her that fear is best when it keeps you safe, not when it keeps you small.
International solo travel and vanlife were some of her best teachers. They revealed that indigenous peoples around the globe were under attack. The same oppressive systems and entities operating at the core of the US American Empire, were repeating cycles of harm abroad.
In 2026, Anaïs expanded her political footprint as the former Press Secretary for the Green Party’s California Gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Butch Ware. She is now the Editorial Director and a writer at The Left Current to resist being small, to highlight our hidden interrelations, and to help bridge the gap between our current reality and the one we co-create next.
